Tail Lifts

taillift loler

Safe and efficient loading for vehicles.

Tail lifts are hydraulic platforms fitted to the rear of vans, trucks, and lorries to assist with loading and unloading heavy goods. Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER), tail lifts must undergo regular thorough examinations by a competent person to ensure they are safe and legally compliant.

LOLER Requirements for Tail Lifts

  • Frequency: At least every 6 months if used to lift people, or every 12 months for goods-only use.

  • Inspector: Must be a competent person — independent, qualified, and experienced.

  • Records: Maintain LOLER reports and act on any defects immediately.

  • Legal duty: Vehicle owners, operators, and fleet managers are responsible for ensuring examinations are carried out.

Failure to comply can result in fines, prosecution, and increased safety risks.
